About this template

This is the gratitude format most people start with: a short morning section that sets an intention for the day and a short evening section that closes it. Each prompt has room for three answers, so you never stare at a blank page. Writing three specific things you are grateful for, rather than one vague one, is what the research on gratitude journaling keeps coming back to.

It suits anyone who has bought a paper gratitude journal, filled it for two weeks and stopped. Keeping it on your phone with a reminder removes the two things that usually kill the habit: forgetting, and not having the notebook with you. The whole thing takes about five minutes a day.

How to use it

  1. Add the template and schedule it for every morning with a reminder at the time you have coffee.
  2. Answer the three morning prompts with specific things, not categories: “the way the light hit the kitchen” beats “my home”.
  3. In the evening, list three things that happened today and one way the day could have gone better.
  4. After a month, open the calendar view and reread a few entries. That is where the habit starts paying off.
