About this template
A watch records the pace. A running log records why the pace was what it was: the weather, the hills, the bad night’s sleep, the twinge in the calf that started three runs ago. This template keeps distance and time as numbers so the app charts weekly mileage, and adds the context a watch cannot: effort, how the legs felt, the route, and anything that hurt. The type question separates easy runs from workouts and long runs, which is the split every training plan cares about.
It is for anyone from Couch to 5K through marathon training. The injury prompt is the important one. Most running injuries announce themselves for weeks first, and a log makes those announcements visible. The habit checklist is for the things runners skip: stretching, strength work, rest days, new shoes when the old ones are done.
How to use it
- Log within an hour of the run, while the legs still remember it.
- Rate effort by feel, not by pace. An easy run should be a three even on a good day.
- Write down every ache, however small. Then look for the same word three entries running.
- Check weekly distance in Stats and keep the increase under about ten percent a week.
