About this template
Relationship counselors often prescribe a weekly check-in, and most couples stop after two weeks because there is no structure to it. This template is the structure. It asks each partner for one thing they appreciated, one thing that felt hard, and one small thing to do differently, plus a shared plan for the week ahead. The connection rating is deliberately simple, and over months it tells you more than any single conversation.
It works as a solo journal about the relationship or as one entry you fill in together on the couch. It is for couples who want to head off the slow drift of busy years, new parents whose conversations have become logistics, and anyone in counseling who has been told to talk more. Ten minutes, once a week, is the whole commitment.
How to use it
- Pick a fixed time, Sunday evening works for most, and schedule the template for that day.
- Start with appreciation and say it out loud before typing it.
- Keep the “felt hard” line about a moment, not a character flaw.
- Agree on one small change each, then leave it. Big conversations get their own time.
