About this template
The first years disappear. Everyone says so and nobody believes it until their child is at school and the toddler years are a blur. This template is a two-minute nightly record of one moment worth keeping, something your child said or did, and the hard part of the day, because the hard parts are the ones you will laugh about and the ones you will want to remember surviving.
It also asks how you are doing, with a rating and a one-line self-care habit, because a parenting journal that ignores the parent is only half a record. It suits new parents, parents of toddlers, and anyone with older children who wants to keep the funny things they say. Scroll back through a year of these and you have a baby book that actually got written.
How to use it
- Fill it in after bedtime, or in the dark while feeding. Voice typing works well here.
- Write down the exact words your child said, mispronunciations included.
- Be honest about the hard part. It is for you, and later it is proof of what you got through.
- Do not skip the “how I am doing” rating. If it stays low for two weeks, tell someone.
