About this template
An evening journal works because the day is still fresh and there is nothing left to do about it. This template asks for the highlight and the hardest moment, then one lesson, then what you are choosing to leave behind before sleep. It closes with a single thing to look forward to tomorrow, which is a small but reliable way to fall asleep in a better mood than you woke up in.
It suits anyone whose mind races at bedtime, or who wants a daily journal but knows mornings are too rushed. Nothing here takes more than a line or two. The day rating is there for the long view: after a month, the app’s stats show which weeks were good and the entries explain why.
How to use it
- Schedule it for the evening and keep the phone by the bed, not in another room.
- Write the highlight first, even on bad days. There is nearly always one.
- Keep the “letting go” line literal: name the thing, then close the app.
- Read last week’s “looking forward to” lines on a Sunday and notice how many came true.
