About this template

The one-line-a-day format has kept people writing for years for the same reason it sounds too small to matter: it is impossible to fail at. This template gives you a single line for what happened, a single word for how it felt, and a star rating. There is nothing to plan and nothing to catch up on. When you have more to say, the second prompt accepts extra lines, and when you do not, you skip it.

It is the right template for people who have bought three notebooks and abandoned them all, and for anyone who wants a record of ordinary days without the pressure of writing. The app’s calendar view shows the streak, and the star ratings give a mood line across months that a paper five-year diary never could.

How to use it

  1. Set a daily reminder for the same time, ideally right after something you already do every night.
  2. Write the first thing that comes to mind. Editing is what kills the habit.
  3. On days with more to say, tap the plus on the second prompt to add lines.
  4. Once a year, scroll back to the same date. That is the whole reward.
