About this template

Morning pages, popularised by Julia Cameron in The Artist’s Way, are three pages of longhand, unedited writing done immediately after waking. The point is not to produce anything good. It is to empty the noise out of your head so that the real work of the day has room. This template keeps that spirit: one large free-write box and nothing that asks you to be clever.

Two small prompts sit underneath for people who want them. An intention line gives the day a direction once the pages have cleared the fog, and an idea box catches anything worth keeping that surfaced while writing. Both are optional and easy to delete if you want the pure version.

How to use it

  1. Write before you look at your phone’s other apps, email or news. That order is the whole technique.
  2. Do not stop, reread or correct. If you run out of things to say, write that you have run out of things to say.
  3. Aim for about ten to fifteen minutes. On a phone that is roughly the length of the free-write box.
  4. Do not reread entries for at least a few weeks. Morning pages are for writing, not for reading.
