About this template

Most people remember almost nothing of a book six months after reading it. A reading log fixes that by asking for one idea and one quotation per session, which is the part that sticks, and by putting a rating and a one-line verdict on each book when it is finished. This template is for a daily or per-session entry rather than one per book, so it also keeps the reading habit itself visible: pages read is a number the app charts, and the streak shows the days you did not read at all.

It is for readers who want to remember more of what they read, book club members who need something to say, and anyone with a reading goal for the year. The “status” choice marks the day you finish a book, so filtering for finished entries at the end of the year gives you the list, the ratings, and the one-line reviews all in one place.

How to use it

1. Log after each reading session, even ten pages before bed.
2. Copy one line worth keeping, exactly as written, with the page number.
3. Write the “idea to keep” in your own words. That is the part that makes it yours.
4. When you finish a book, set the status to finished, rate it, and give it one line. Future you will thank you.
