About this template
Budgets tell you what you should spend. A spending journal tells you what you actually do, and why, which is the part budgets miss. This template asks for the day’s total as a number the app can chart, a list of what the money went on, and a multiple-choice question about whether the spending was planned, impulsive or an emergency. A one-line prompt about how you feel catches the guilt or the satisfaction while it is still honest.
It is meant for people starting a no-spend month, paying off debt, or just wondering where the money goes. The habit checklist works well as a set of daily money rules: packed lunch, no delivery apps, checked the balance. A no-spend day is simply an entry with zero in the total, and the streak counter in Stats makes those visible.
How to use it
- Log at the end of the day, or right after each purchase if you are on a no-spend challenge.
- Round to the nearest whole unit. Precision is not the point, noticing is.
- Add your money rules to the habit list and check off the ones you kept.
- Look at the monthly total chart in Stats on payday and pick one category to change.
